The Abia State Police Command has assured a delegation from the British High Commission of its preparedness to provide adequate security for the 2027 general elections in the state.

Receiving the delegation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, said the Command was committed to ensuring a peaceful, secure and credible electoral process in Abia State.

Afolabi disclosed that police officers were undergoing training and retraining to enhance professionalism, operational readiness and intelligence-led policing ahead of the elections.

He also highlighted the Command’s collaboration with sister security agencies, noting that he had undertaken strategic visits to relevant agencies to strengthen synergy and unity of purpose towards achieving a safe electoral environment.

The Commissioner assured that the Command would continue to work with relevant stakeholders to promote peace and security before, during and after the 2027 elections.

The delegation, led by the Second Secretary Political, Wendy Shepherd, visited the Command to gain insight into the police preparedness for the elections and discuss citizen engagement, collaboration with political parties and efforts to ensure peaceful and secure elections.
