Candidates Who Shall Return Must Be Based on Performance — Ukpabi Insists

The National Publicity Secretary of the Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), Hon. Ukpabi Micheal Authority, has forcefully reiterated the uncompromising position of the youth wing of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ukpabi declared in clear and unambiguous terms that the days of automatic tickets, political recycling, and entitlement mentality are over. He stressed that only candidates with verifiable records of performance, accountability, and people-oriented leadership deserve to be returned to office.

“2027 will not be business as usual,” he asserted. “Nigerian youths are no longer passive observers. We are stakeholders, and we will resist any attempt to impose non-performing leaders on the people. Only those who have delivered measurable results to their constituents have the moral right to seek reelection.”

He emphasized that the Ohanaeze Youth Council is drawing a hard line against underperformance, warning that political office holders who have failed in their responsibilities should prepare to face the consequences at the ballot box.

“For too long, our political space has been dominated by empty rhetoric, divisive sentiments, and leaders who thrive on ethnicity and patronage rather than performance. That era has expired. The future of Nigeria cannot be mortgaged by incompetence,” Ukpabi stated.

The OYC further warned political parties against granting tickets based on loyalty, financial inducement, or backdoor arrangements, insisting that such practices are a direct insult to the intelligence of Nigerian youths.

“We are watching. We are organizing. And we will mobilize massively against any candidate who lacks a proven track record. Performance is no longer optional—it is the minimum requirement,” he added.

Ukpabi called on all aspirants to subject themselves to public scrutiny, urging constituents to demand evidence of impact in areas such as infrastructure, education, employment, and human capital development.

He concluded by reaffirming the commitment of the Ohanaeze Youth Council to championing a new political culture—one rooted in accountability, transparency, and results.

“The message is simple and non-negotiable: No performance, no return. The power ultimately belongs to the people, and in 2027, that power will be exercised decisively.”
