Police Overhaul in Abia: Strike Force Replaces Quick Intervention Unit

In a major shake-up aimed at enhancing security and restoring public confidence, the Abia State Police Command has disbanded its Quick Intervention Unit (QIU) over allegations of unprofessional conduct. The Command has simultaneously launched a new tactical squad, known as the Strike Force, to bolster its crime-fighting efforts across the state.

Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, announced the development on Tuesday in Umuahia. He stated that the decision was in line with the Inspector-General of Police’s mandate to build a professional, responsive, and law-abiding police force.

The newly constituted Strike Force will be headed by DSP Eze Augustine Eke and comprises specially trained officers deployed across the state to respond swiftly to emerging security threats.

CP Isa charged the officers to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and respect for the rule of law in the discharge of their duties. He reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for misconduct and encouraged members of the public to report any cases of abuse or wrongdoing to the Abia State Police Complaint Response Unit via 09031593827 or 09035401645.

According to the Command, the overhaul is part of broader efforts to strengthen operational effectiveness and improve public trust in the police across Abia State.
