ABIA GOVT OFFICIALS AND CIVIL SERVANTS TO WEAR NATIVE ATTIRE FOR CULTURAL HERITAGE GOVT TO ENFORCE TRAFFIC RULES

The Abia state government say hence forth her Officials would be mandated to put on Igbo attires every first Monday of every month While coming to work while all civil Servants in the state would do same every Friday of every week .

Addressing newsmen on the decisions reached at the week’s Executive Council meeting , the Hon. Commissioner for Information Prince Okey Kanu said the native attire is to show case the state’s pride in her cultural heritage .

The Commissioner also disclosed that the state government would in this month of September 2025
launch the Contributory Pension Scheme for workers in the State’s Public Service.

He said that introducing the Contributory Pension Scheme is in line with the state government’s ongoing reforms in the public service sector saying it is for the well fare of Workers . Date and time and venue he said would be made known in due course .
Ten pension fund administrators, that’s PFAs, have been selected for their enlistment for the scheme .

Prince Okey Kanu informed that the state government is set to enforce traffic rules to ensure that traffic offenders and those driving against the traffic are penalized .

“The Abia State Government, through the Ministry of Transport, has reiterated plans to strengthen the enforcement of traffic rules and regulations across the state.
“Offenders, such as those who drive against traffic, including traffic light offenders, picking of passengers along the road ,
would be fined or prosecuted according to the law . Also, touting in the parks , along the roads remains prohibited.

He used the medium to warn against those who extort traders, particularly at the Ngwa Road market. He urged them to desist from such illegal acts or face the wrath of the law .

The Commissioner further announced the approval of the State Executive Council to extend the mass transit services program to distant LGAs to enable them benefit from the program.

Contributing, the Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Chimezie Ukaegbu reiterated that the 40 buses would be received in the state by November this year and noted that, the complaints of extortion in markets raised at the briefing by journalists would be investigated.

Following the discovery of hydrocarbon in the only source of drinking water of the people of Ohanso community in Ukwa East local government area , the state government have set up an emergency team headed by the Commissioner for Petroleum Prof Joel Ogbonna to among other things source ways and means of providing drinking water for the people of Ohanso Community to avert any health hazard in the area . The state ministry of health was also mandated to carry out further investigation on the incident .
