Deaconess Nnenna Ekeh Laid to Rest in Akanu Ohafia Amidst Emotional Tributes

The funeral of Deaconess Nnenna Esther Ekeh, mother of Hon. Dr. Martins Okey Justice (J. Martins), Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Entertainment and Tourism, drew an outpouring of love and heartfelt tributes on Friday as she was laid to rest in her hometown.

Representing Governor Alex Chioma Otti at the ceremony, Deputy Governor Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu described the passing of a mother as an “immeasurable loss” and paid glowing tribute to Deaconess Ekeh’s enduring legacy. He hailed her as a woman of virtue, noting her life of service, integrity, and commitment to family and community. He encouraged her loved ones to uphold the values she lived by—discipline, humility, and unwavering faith.

In a deeply moving tribute, Dr. Martins expressed his gratitude to the Governor, Deputy Governor, and dignitaries in attendance. He described his mother as a pillar of strength who instilled in her children the principles of hard work, honesty, and service to others.

The funeral service, officiated by Bishop Paul Nwachukwu of the Grace of God Mission, was marked by solemn hymns and prayers. In his sermon, Bishop Nwachukwu urged the congregation to lead lives that honour God, reminding them of the transient nature of life and the eternal hope in Christ.

The event was graced by a host of dignitaries, including the wife of the Deputy Governor, Her Excellency Adaeze Chidera Emetu; Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Austin Okezie Meregini; commissioners, special advisers, senior government officials, religious leaders, and members of the community.

Deaconess Ekeh is remembered as a devoted mother, faithful Christian, and a beacon of strength to many.
