Labour Party Unveils Timetable, Fees for 2027 Primary Elections.

The Labour Party has released the timetable, schedule of activities and nomination fees for its 2026 primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a press statement signed by Ken Eluma Asogwa, the party said the timetable was issued in line with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Electoral Act 2026 and the revised schedule of activities released by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

According to the schedule, sale of nomination forms for all elective offices will begin on May 6 and end on May 16, 2026, while submission of completed forms will take place from May 17 to May 18.

The party said screening of aspirants for House of Assembly and governorship positions will hold on May 20, while screening for National Assembly and presidential aspirants is fixed for May 22. Screening results are expected to be published on May 23.

Appeals and petitions arising from the screening exercise for House of Assembly and governorship aspirants will be heard on May 24, while those for National Assembly and presidential aspirants will hold on May 25.

The final list of cleared aspirants is scheduled for publication on May 26.
Labour Party fixed May 27 for the conduct of House of Assembly and governorship primaries, while National Assembly and presidential primaries will hold on May 29.

The party also announced the approved fees for nomination forms. Aspirants for House of Assembly are to pay a total of N3 million, made up of N1 million for expression of interest and N2 million for nomination forms. House of Representatives aspirants will pay N5 million, while Senate aspirants are to pay N10 million.

For governorship aspirants, the party fixed the total cost of forms at N25 million, while presidential aspirants will pay N50 million.

In line with its principle of equal opportunity and social justice, the party approved concessions for women, persons living with disabilities and youths between the ages of 25 and 30, who will only be required to pay for expression of interest forms across all categories.

The party further urged all prospective aspirants who are yet to register as members to take advantage of its ongoing electronic membership registration, which closes at midnight on May 4, 2026, ahead of the compilation and submission of its membership register to INEC in compliance with the Electoral Act 2026.
