Abia Police Intensify Enforcement on Defaced Number Plates, Illegal Tinted Glasses
The Abia State Police Command has commenced a coordinated public safety enforcement exercise across the state to check vehicles with defaced, covered or improperly displayed registration number plates and the unlawful use of tinted glasses without valid permits.
The exercise, which began on Monday, September 21, 2026, is being carried out in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police and the marching orders of the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi.
The operation is led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Ifeanyi Ohuruzo, with personnel drawn from the Area Command, Umuahia, State Traffic Department and Central Police Station.
Before the commencement of the exercise, participating officers were briefed and directed to maintain professionalism, high standards of conduct and strict adherence to operational ethics throughout the enforcement.
The Command urged motorists and other members of the public to comply with existing vehicle regulations by ensuring that their registration number plates are properly displayed and not defaced or covered.
It also advised owners and users of tinted vehicles to ensure that they possess valid permits issued by the appropriate authorities.
The Police further called on members of the public to cooperate with the enforcement exercise in the interest of public safety, law and order.
Meanwhile, the Command warned that cases of misconduct or unprofessional behaviour by police officers during the exercise should be promptly reported to the Complaint Response Unit through 09031593827 or 09035401645.
The enforcement exercise is ongoing in Aba and other Area Commands across the state as the Police Command intensifies efforts to ensure compliance with traffic and vehicle regulations and protect lives and property.
