Abia CP Assures Veterinary Association of Support to Combat Quackery, Protect Public Health.
The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, has assured the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), Abia State Chapter, of the command’s support in tackling quackery in veterinary practice and strengthening public health security in the state.

Afolabi gave the assurance on Wednesday when he received the leadership of the association, led by its state chairman, Dr. Jude Stephen, during a courtesy visit to the police command.
The commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to collaborating with relevant professional bodies and stakeholders to promote public safety, strengthen community engagement and protect the wellbeing of residents across Abia State.
Afolabi welcomed the delegation and assured it of the command’s continued support and collaboration in addressing the concerns raised.
The visit also provided an opportunity for the association to commend the police command’s security efforts, particularly its community policing initiatives, while seeking a stronger partnership on issues of mutual concern.
The NVMA delegation expressed concern over the activities of unqualified veterinary practitioners who administer inappropriate or unsafe vaccines to animals, warning that such practices could pose serious risks to human health through the consumption of affected animals and their products.
The association emphasised that animal health is closely connected to human health, food safety and public wellbeing, noting the need for effective collaboration to prevent practices that could endanger consumers.
It also sought the command’s cooperation in controlling cross-border animal movement, detecting and preventing quackery in veterinary practice, and conducting public sensitisation and awareness campaigns.
The proposed partnership is expected to strengthen cooperation between law enforcement and veterinary professionals in safeguarding animal health, promoting food safety and protecting public health across Abia State.
