Abia Police Commence 2026 Basic Intelligence Course to Boost Security.

The Abia State Police Command has commenced its 2026 Basic Intelligence Course to strengthen intelligence-led policing, improve crime prevention and enhance security operations across the state.

The training, which began on Wednesday, October 21, is in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to promote professionalism, intelligence-led policing and community policing.

The programme brought together the Senior Special Assistant to the Abia State Governor on Security, Commander MacDonald Ubah (Rtd.); senior police officers; and participants drawn from various formations of the Police Command, sister security agencies and local community security outfits.

Speaking at the event, Ubah, who was the Special Guest of Honour, stressed the importance of intelligence gathering in protecting lives and property and supporting effective security operations.

He urged the participants to approach the training with commitment, discipline and dedication to enable them to acquire the necessary skills for addressing security challenges.

In his address, the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, said intelligence remained fundamental to effective policing, crime prevention, successful investigations and operational planning.

Afolabi explained that the course was designed to equip participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to gather, analyse and utilise intelligence to improve operational effectiveness and enable security personnel to respond proactively to emerging threats.

He charged the participants to remain focused, disciplined and professional throughout the training, urging them to apply the knowledge acquired in the discharge of their duties.

The police commissioner also underscored the need for stronger collaboration among security agencies and members of the public to identify, prevent and address emerging security challenges.

Afolabi expressed appreciation to the Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Chioma Otti, for the state government’s continued support for the Police Command and its commitment to improving security across the state.

He said the course is expected to enhance intelligence-gathering capabilities, strengthen cooperation among security agencies and promote proactive policing to safeguard lives and property in Abia State.
