Abia CP Moves Against Police Misconduct, Engages Osisioma Youths.

The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, has assured residents of stronger police accountability and improved community relations following a security sensitisation programme with youths and stakeholders in Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area.

Afolabi gave the assurance on Thursday, October 22, 2026, during an interactive engagement with youths, traders, transport unions, members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), the Mayor and other stakeholders under the Command’s Community Safety Partnership Initiative.

The engagement was aimed at strengthening police-community relations, addressing public concerns about police conduct and promoting collective efforts towards crime prevention and public safety.

During the session, the youths raised concerns bordering on alleged extortion, improper dressing by police officers, demands for money for bail and investigations, profiling of young people based on their appearance, factory-fitted tinted vehicle windows and inadequate patrol vehicles.

Responding, the Commissioner reiterated the Inspector-General of Police’s commitment to professionalism and accountability, disclosing that the Command was activating its X-Squad to monitor officers at various duty posts and address cases of misconduct.

He warned against bribery, stressing that both those who offer bribes and those who receive them were culpable. He also encouraged residents to report cases of police misconduct through his contact line and that of the Command’s Complaint Response Unit (CRU), which were made available to the youths.

While advising young people to dress responsibly, Afolabi emphasised that no individual should be regarded or treated as a criminal merely because of their appearance.

The police commissioner urged residents to remain law-abiding, maintain cordial relationships with their neighbours and adopt basic security measures to protect themselves and their property.

He further encouraged the use of security devices, including wheel locks, pedal locks and vehicle trackers, while advising residents to keep relevant security contacts handy and provide the police with credible information that could assist in preventing crime.

The engagements underscore the Abia State Police Command’s commitment to strengthening community partnerships, promoting police accountability, building public confidence and securing the active participation of residents in the fight against crime across the state.

As part of the engagement, Afolabi paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of the Osisioma Council of Traditional Rulers, His Royal Majesty, Eze Chidi Obisike Nkoro, where he sought sustained collaboration with traditional institutions in intelligence gathering and information sharing.

The monarch, accompanied by other traditional rulers and members of his cabinet, welcomed the police commissioner and his entourage, offered prayers and assured the Command of their continued support in maintaining peace and security in the area.

In a related development, the commissioner visited Chief Sir Leo Okoye, KSGG, Uduakomiri of Aba, to commiserate with him over the death of his wife, Lady Nneoma Alice Nneka Okoye.

Afolabi conveyed the Command’s condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for divine comfort and strength for them during the period of mourning.
