Abia Police, INEC Strengthen Partnership for Peaceful Elections

The Abia State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to providing adequate security before, during and after elections in the state, as it strengthens collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure peaceful, credible and violence-free elections.

The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, gave the assurance on Thursday, October 22, 2026, when he received a delegation from INEC Abia State, led by the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor Sylvia Agu, at the Command.

The visit was aimed at familiarising the INEC delegation with the Police Command and discussing areas of mutual interest, particularly the need to strengthen cooperation through meetings of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES).

CP Afolabi welcomed the delegation and assured INEC of the Command’s full cooperation and support in maintaining adequate security throughout the electoral process.

He reiterated the Command’s commitment to deepening collaboration with INEC and other relevant stakeholders to promote peaceful elections and prevent electoral violence in Abia State.

The partnership is expected to strengthen inter-agency coordination and enhance security arrangements for the conduct of peaceful, credible and violence-free elections across the state.
