Abia CP Strengthens Partnership with FRSC, Calls for Joint Training, Cooperation

The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, psc+, mnips, JP, has called for stronger collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to enhance security, professionalism and effective service delivery in the state.

CP Afolabi made the call on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, when he paid a courtesy visit to the Abia Sector Command of the FRSC as part of his ongoing working visits to security and sister agencies in the state.

The visit, undertaken in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, was aimed at strengthening inter-agency cooperation, improving operational efficiency and encouraging joint capacity-building initiatives between the two agencies.

Speaking during the visit, the Commissioner stressed the importance of continuous training and professional development among security personnel, noting that an officer who is not properly trained or regularly updated could pose a danger to himself, his institution and members of the public he is expected to protect.

He also frowned at rivalry among security agencies, describing inter-agency rivalry as a trait of the unexposed. According to him, effective security and public safety can only be achieved when relevant agencies work together as a team.

The Commissioner further invited the FRSC to participate in the Command’s forthcoming capacity-building training programme, stressing that the initiative would enhance knowledge, professionalism and effective service delivery.

Receiving the CP, the FRSC Abia Sector Commander, CC Ngozi I. Ezeoma, appreciated him for the visit and acknowledged the Nigeria Police as the lead internal security agency in the country.

Ezeoma identified areas where the FRSC required greater collaboration with the Police in Abia and assured that the Corps was ready to support and actively participate in the proposed training programme and other joint initiatives.

She also called for sustained cooperation between both agencies, stressing that clashes among security and safety agencies were unnecessary and counterproductive.

The visit ended with a renewed commitment by the Nigeria Police and FRSC in Abia State to strengthen cooperation, promote professionalism and work jointly towards ensuring public safety and security across the state.
