ABIA NURSES EARN HIGHER SALARY THAN THEIR FEDERAL COUNTERPARTS

With the approval of a new salary structure for Abia State Nurses by the state governor Dr. Alex Otti , Abia state Nurses in Abia now earn salary that is a bit higher than those of their Federal counterparts .

Stating this yesterday the 3rd of November 2025 to pressmen at the government house Umuahia, after the Executive Council meeting , Chaired by the state governor Dr . Alex Otti .

The Hon. Commissioner for Information Prince Okey Kanu stated that this is as a result of the approval for the payment of Consolidated Health Workers Salary Structure ‘CONHESS’ for health workers in the state , including Nurses in the local government areas . By the state governor Dr Otti .He noted that government is currently screening 500 Nurses for employment at the LGA level. There is no discrimination against grades, no more dichotomy between the state and the local government. These he said are inline with the governor’s promise to prioritize workers welfare package in the state .

The Commissioner further stated that the state governor have ordered the three Specialist hospital under construction to be done according to world standard noting that 52 Primary Health Centres have been completed and functionalized in the state while 106 PHCs have reached an advanced stage. He said the 250 primary health care centres being handled by the state government are expected to be completed before the end the year 2025 .

The Commissioner announced that Abians in diaspora in conjunction with Abia based health group shall hold medical out reaches in the state come 2026 . Prince Okey Kanu said there are no confirmation of any communicable disease out break in the state .

He disclosed that the state ministry of health have reopened the state’s portal for the recruitment of medical officers in the state . Qualified persons should visit the portal saying
that the state is still desirous to engage best hands in the
medical field .

The light up Abia program he said is still on going as efforts are being made to reach several communities in the state before the end of the year . Equally, the Ohafia light up program is on going. The Greater Ohafia Development Authority GODA that handling the project is working round the clock to ensure Ohafia gets electricity power before the end of the year , just as the federal Minister for power is Making effort to ensure communities get light before the yelutide season .

The Commissioner have called on the people of the state to always yield up their land to the state government to use for development projects . He said the state government would pay as usual good compensation for any land acquired .
