The Abía State ministry of Health say she has been able to develop a high quality pregnancy monitoring digital Device known as CY Tracker , capable of monitoring pregnancies right from the take in of the foetus to giving birth of the child . The APP determines the status of the foetus at various stages of the pregnancy to the time the child is born . This is meant to reduce Maternal and Infant mortality in the state

The state Commissioner for Information Prince Okey kanu disclosed this on Monday the 10th of August 2026 at the government house Umuahia , while briefing the press on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting presided over by the State Governor Dr Alex Otti.

Prince Kanu revealed that the application have already been successfully used to track teenage pregnancies and monitor the expectant mothers through delivery, describing the initiative as another practical demonstration of the administration’s commitment to using technology to improve healthcare outcomes.

The Commissioner revealed that Abia state has been named as the number one state in healthcare affordability and among the top three states in quality healthcare provision in Nigeria.

He said that the recognition, contained in a recent assessment made by Philips Consulting SPI.

On Primary Health Centres ,the Commissioner , said the first 50 functionalised PHCs accounted for over 1.067 million outpatients visits recorded across the state between July 2025 and June 2026.

He announced that three additional PHCs have been activated between July 27 and August 10 2026 , bringing the total number of activated PHCs in the state to 151.

The Commissioner again noted that enrolment in the Abia State Health Insurance Scheme have risen from 233,000 to 237,000 between July 27 and August 7, 2026.

He also announced that the state recorded no disease of public risk during the period under review, such diseases as Ebola, Lassa fever, COVID-19, diphtheria, cholera, mpox and yellow fever were not recorded in the state.

He informed that the Abiriba Community Improvement Union, North America Chapter , is sponsoring the registration of about 1,000 indigent persons under the state’s health insurance scheme. The Exco described this as laudable and called on other communities, organisations and groups to emulate this initiative.

The Commissioner hinted that the Abia State Civil Service Commission would soon commence another round of recruitment of healthcare professionals, noting that 742 medical personnels have so far been employed by the present administration .

He noted that the new recruitment will focus on medical and dental officers including full-time and part-time consultants, adding that the application portal will opens on Monday night 10th, August 2026.

Speaking, the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Enoch Ogbonnaya Uche, explained that the CyTracker initiative was developed as part of comprehensive measures to tackle maternal and infant mortality in the State.

He said the initiative focuses particularly on identifying women who are at higher risk of complications, including teenage mothers, women without supervised antenatal care and expectant mothers who may deliver without the assistance of skilled birth attendants.

Prince Kanu said the Executive Council have given directives to ministry of Housing to rehablitate the Umuocham Abayi Aba Housing Estate. According to the Commissioner, the ministry is to work on Infrastructural decay , the roads and make the estate more habitable for the residents of the Estate.

In the same vein, the ministry of Housing was directed to also move into Amaoba Housing Estate in Umuahia with a view of have it rehabilitated with street light while government’ will provide the estate with a transformer to make life more better for the inhabitants of the Estate.
