Anyaso Fires Back at Anosike, Declares Abia Cheapest State to Live In

—Anyaso announces a replacement car for Methodist Bishop of Item at 2026 Harvest Thanksgiving

The Labour Party candidate for Bende Federal Constituency, Dr. Chima Anyaso, has faulted claims by the Abia State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Kelechi Anosike, that Abia is the most expensive state to live in, insisting that the state has become more affordable under Governor Alex Otti’s administration.

Anyaso made the remarks on Sunday during the 2026 Harvest Thanksgiving service of the Methodist Church, Diocese of Item, held at the Methodist Church, Okoko Item, in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, where he also announced a replacement vehicle for the Bishop of the Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Ikechukwu Nkulo.

Speaking at the service, Anyaso maintained that Abia had moved beyond the challenges associated with previous administrations and would not return to what he described as the state’s troubled past under the PDP.

“Abians have moved on, and our song has changed under the Labour Party administration of Governor Alex Otti,” he said.

Reacting to Anosike’s claim that Abia was the most expensive state to live in, the Labour Party candidate argued that the situation was the opposite, describing Abia as currently the cheapest state to live in.

“Abia is not the most expensive state to live in. Abia State is the cheapest state to live in,” Anyaso declared.

He made the remarks in defence of the Otti administration’s performance and its approach to governance, expressing confidence in the changes taking place in the state.

In a related development, Anyaso announced the provision of a new vehicle for Bishop Nkulo after learning that the cleric’s existing car had been out of use for several months due to mechanical problems.

“We are not fixing a car; we are changing your car,” he announced, indicating that the Bishop would receive a replacement rather than have the faulty vehicle repaired.

Earlier in his sermon, titled “When God Does Great Things,” and drawn from Psalm 126:3, Bishop Nkulo urged Christians to remain steadfast in faith and hopeful in the face of difficult circumstances.

Reflecting on the experience of the Israelites during their exile in Babylon, the cleric said believers should recognise that difficult seasons would not last forever and should remain confident in God’s power to restore and transform their circumstances.

“No matter how difficult it is, if the Israelites could say, ‘We were like them that dreamt,’ then for us, we will soon shout, ‘It is like a dream,’” he said.

The Bishop also encouraged worshippers to remember and openly testify to the good things God had done in their lives, stressing the importance of gratitude and acknowledging divine blessings..

“If you can recall one thing or the other the Lord has done for you, then declare it with your own mouth: ‘The Lord has done great things for me,’” he stated.

He further emphasised that every good and great thing has a source, identifying Almighty God as the ultimate source of blessings.

The member representing Bende North State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Nnamdi Ibekwe, was among other dignitaries and worshippers who joined the Methodist Church for the 2026 Harvest Thanksgiving celebration.
