Communities around Umuahia the Abia state capital are agog with the celebration of New yam Festival.

Some traditional rulers are using the occassion to bare their minds on certain salient issues that borders on the state and the culture of the people.

Recently the Paramount ruler of Dim na Oparaocha autonomous community in Umuahia South LGA of Abia state ,His Royal Majesty Eze Wisdom Ndubueze Ekueku during the celebration of their new yam festival described the governor of Abia state Dr Alex Otti as an Angel sent by God to salvage Abia state , saying he is a presidential material for Nigeria . According to him , the governor posseses all it takes to lead the nation to El dorado . Stating that his second tenure is sacrosanct that is if he is not called upon to lead country , he stated .

Speaking on culture, the royal father who is the Chairman of Umuopara Council of Traditional Rulers said culture is a way of life which has the culture and language of the people deeply rooted in it . He noted that the people of Umuopara celebrate new yam festival to thank God for a bountiful harvest making it clear that there is nothing fetish about the festival saying I Am of Jehova Witness Church including my parents if there is anything fetish in the celebration , I would distance myself from it I will not participate in the festival but there is nothing fetish about our new yam festival .

The traditional ruler used the occassion to call on the Igbos in diaspora to endeavour to invest some of their wealth in Igbo land in order not to go bankrupt if any disaster should befall their businesses located outside Igbo land , they would have another to fall back on .
