SANITARY INSPECTORS RESUME WORK AS TREE PLANTING EXERCISE COMMENCES SOON IN THE STATE

The Abia state government in her bid to create a sustainable sanitary condition in the state , Sanitary Inspectors set up by the governor have commenced operation in the state .

The Hon. Commissioner for Information Prince Okey Kanu disclosed this during the briefing of the Press on the outcome of the week’s Executives Council meeting usually Chaired by the state governor Dr. Alex Chioma Otti. According to the Commissioner, the Sanitary Inspectors have so far visited 85 Communities and have inspected 4500 premises. The Commissioner said the exercise is not for revenue generation but to make all residing in the state participate in cleaning their environment . He noted that there would be no extortion but Offenders would have to pay penalties .

He observed that the state government would soon flag of tree planting exercise to checkmate erosion in the state and improve public health. He said the program would serve for esthetics and attract tourists to the state to make Abia a sustainable modern state .

Prince Okey Kanu quipped that The Abia State Environmental Protection Agency ASEPA is working hard on drainages in Aba and Umuahia to prevent flooding in the two cities , he urged residents of the state to desist from emptying waste into drainages to avoid blockage of water ways.

He again informed that Abia state would participate in the on coming World Clean up Day , coming up on the 25th of September 2025 and ASEPA is working hard to ensure the success of the exercise in the state.

The information Boss , informed that the recruitment exercise of health workers in the state is on course . He explained that about

2,035 applications were received, while 1,752 applicants were shortlisted. 1,404 applicants completed the CBT assessment test which was in two phases,

the first phase he said had about 1,250 applicants, and the mop-up stage had about 187 applicants. The interview for those who were successful during the CBT test is ongoing.

Speaking on Roads infrastructure, the Commissioner said that  six new roads, including, Port Harcourt road, Aba and Ohanku Road are among the set of roads to be commissioned  in early October 2025, bringing the total number of roads projects to have been commissioned in the State  to 39 .
