NEW GENERAL MANAGER ABIA LINE CALLS FOR RESTRUCTURING OF THE COMPANY

The new General Manager of Abia Line Corporation Mr. Emmanuel Maduforo Ufomba. have pleaded with the governor of the state Dr. Alex Otti to carry out an implicit restructuring of Abía Line Company to curtail the incidence of what he termed Generate And Use Syndrome which is synonymous with former management of the company . He maintained that this system have affected negatively the fortunes of the corporation.

Speaking recently in his office, the new General Manager said this is one of the challenges facing Abia Line noting that the place is being ran like an Agency where you can expend any revenue generated without approvals. This is exactly what is happening in this place , they generate funds and expend at will leaving little or nothing for the government . According to him if the workers are scheduled like other Civil Servants, they would be paid like every other Civil Servant so there would be no reason for unnecessary expenditures.

The GM noted that before his advent, he met 3 years backlog of salary arrears with minimum wage implemented . He has been able to offset this backlog to only 10 months and hope to clear it soon .

Another cankerworm bedeviling Abia Line Company is scarcity of buses . According to Mr Ufomba if Abia Line is operating with 300 buses , only 30 belong to Abia Line , the rest is owned by Franchise that pay meagre percentage as commission to the company and those that belong to the Company are old buses that go for incessant repairs .

Another source of worry are loading bays . The company operates with about 30 loading bays, only 3 belongs to Abia line other they occupied on rentage with almost yearly rent increment , this situation affects the Company adversely. He said the Company would be better placed if she own Loading bays that solly belong to Abia Line . This he observed would put an end to constant relocations from place to place . The GM noted that Abia Line urgently need loading bays in Anambra state , Lagos and Abuja and some other locations for effective operations .

Mr Ufomba observed cheerfully that the story of Abía Line would soon change for good now that the state governor Dr Alex Otti have stepped in to better the lot of the company the ugly story of Abía Line would soon change for best . He said , “You know how His Excellency does his own things ,I can tell you that very soon we shall sing a new song in Abia Line , just wait and see” . He stated
