Police Arrest Father Over Alleged Gruesome Abuse of 13-Year-Old Son

The Abia State Police Command has arrested a man, Mr. Uzoma Uwaeme, over the alleged gruesome abuse of his 13-year-old son in Aba, Abia State.
Uwaeme, a resident of Nwokocha Street, off Udeabara Road, Aba, was arrested by operatives of the Abayi Divisional Police Headquarters following a viral video showing the boy tied with a rope, brutally flogged, severely injured, stripped naked and left exposed under the scorching sun.

The arrest was made on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi,.

The Command said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation, while the suspect remains in police custody.

It added that the victim had received medical attention and was in stable condition, and is currently under the protective custody of the Police.

The Commissioner of Police condemned the alleged abuse, describing it as “inhumane, barbaric” and a gross violation of the rights of the child.

Afolabi reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for all forms of child abuse and domestic violence, assuring that the suspect would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The Police urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report cases of child abuse, domestic violence and other criminal activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s dedicated telephone lines.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights, dignity and well-being of residents, particularly vulnerable members of society.
