2027: Ufomba Dumps PDP  for Labour Party, Rallies Support for Otti’s Re-election

Former governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Ochiagha Reagan Ufomba, has formally joined the Labour Party (LP), declaring unwavering support for Governor Alex Otti’s re-election bid in 2027 and urging Abians to sustain their backing for the administration.

Ufomba, a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart and founder of the Change Abia Organization, was officially received into the Labour Party alongside members of his political movement during a well-attended ceremony held at the Isiala Ngwa North Council Headquarters, Okpuala Ngwa.

Addressing party faithful and supporters at the event, Ufomba said his decision to align with the Labour Party was driven by the visible achievements of Governor Otti’s administration and the need to support a government that has demonstrated commitment to development and good governance.

He noted that the Change Abia Organization, which comprises 198 affiliate groups across the state, resolved to join the Labour Party in order to contribute meaningfully to the ongoing transformation of Abia.

According to him, the Otti administration has distinguished itself through strategic infrastructure projects, including the reconstruction of major roads, bridges, drainage networks and flood control systems, particularly in Aba and other parts of the state.

He added that the government’s performance has restored public confidence in leadership by making governance more responsive and impactful.

Ufomba stressed that continuity in leadership would enable the administration to consolidate on its achievements, urging residents of the state to support Governor Otti’s second-term aspiration in 2027.

Speaking at the event, Governor Alex Otti welcomed Ufomba and members of the Change Abia Organization into the Labour Party, describing their decision as a demonstration of confidence in the party’s vision and the administration’s development agenda.

He commended Ufomba for his support since the 2023 elections and noted that both the Labour Party and the Change Abia Organization share a common aspiration for the progress and prosperity of Abia State.

Earlier, the Mayor of Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area, Ambassador Innocent Uruakpa, praised Governor Otti for ongoing developmental projects across the state and expressed optimism that the council area would deliver massive support for the Labour Party in future elections.

Also speaking, the State Chairman of the Change Abia Organization, Comrade Emma Onyenmuru, reaffirmed the group’s commitment to supporting the governor, noting that the organization was founded on the principles of positive change and sustainable development.

The Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Hon. Matthew Ekwuribe, lauded the administration’s infrastructural interventions in Isiala Ngwa North and other parts of the state, while the member representing Isiala Ngwa North State Constituency, Hon. Collins Ugochukwu Iheonunekwu, described the area as a stronghold of the Labour Party and disclosed that grassroots mobilization efforts were ongoing to expand the party’s membership base.

The Labour Party Chairman in Isiala Ngwa North, Hon. Peter Azubuike, also welcomed the new members and commended Governor Otti’s commitment to strengthening the party structure across the state.

In a vote of thanks, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, said the increasing number of individuals and groups joining the Labour Party reflected growing public confidence in the administration’s performance and development-oriented policies.

The highpoint of the event was the formal presentation of Labour Party flags to Reagan Ufomba and other defectors by Governor Otti, symbolizing their official admission into the party.
