Abia Police Record 438 Criminal Cases, Arrest 809 Suspects in 2025

The Abia State Police Command recorded a total of 438 criminal cases and arrested 809 suspects between January and December 2025, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Danladi Isa, has disclosed.
Isa made this known during a press briefing with journalists at the Command Headquarters in Umuahia, where he presented an overview of policing activities in the state ahead of the festive season.

According to the Commissioner, 201 of the recorded cases have been fully investigated and charged to court, while investigations are ongoing in 237 cases. He said police operations during the period led to the recovery of 88 firearms, 20 magazines, and 435 rounds of ammunition.

The Command also rescued 33 trafficked or stolen children and prosecuted 30 suspects over cases of defilement and rape. All the suspects, he said, have been remanded in custody.

CP Isa noted that sustained police efforts have resulted in a significant reduction in crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping, murder, child trafficking, and unlawful possession of firearms across the state.

He attributed the achievements to intelligence-led policing and improved collaboration between the police and local communities.
Recovered items, according to him, included stolen vehicles, tricycles, motorcycles, mobile phones, laptops, cash, and other exhibits linked to criminal activities. He added that substances suspected to be illicit drugs were also intercepted during various operations.

Highlighting major cases recorded from October to date, the Commissioner said the Command dismantled child trafficking syndicates, arrested suspects linked to gun-running and cult-related violence, and rescued children who were subsequently reunited with their families.

He noted that many of the successes were achieved through effective intelligence sharing and coordinated operations across police divisions.
Isa also reported progress in murder and armed robbery cases, with several suspects arrested, weapons recovered, and cases charged to court, while investigations into other cases remain ongoing.

On preparations for the Yuletide season, the Commissioner said the Command has deployed both covert and overt security measures to ensure the safety of residents before, during, and after the festive period. He added that a Crime-Free Christmas sensitisation walk was organised in collaboration with the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices, starting from Okpara Square and ending at the Command Headquarters.

CP Isa urged residents to support the police by providing timely and useful information, stressing that security is a collective responsibility. He assured the public of the Command’s continued collaboration with other security agencies and communities to maintain peace and security in Abia State.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, and the protection of lives and property across the state.
