Abia Police, Tricycle Union Forge Partnership to Tackle Crime

In a strategic move to strengthen grassroots security, the Abia State Police Command has announced a partnership with the Abia State Tricycle (Autorickshaw) Operators Union (ASTOPU) to bolster crime prevention efforts across the state.

The collaboration was cemented during a courtesy visit by ASTOPU executives to the Commissioner of Police, Abia State, CP Danladi Isa, at the State Police Headquarters in Umuahia on Wednesday. The delegation was led by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transport, Dr. Obinna Nwaogbe.

CP Danladi expressed appreciation for the union’s willingness to work with the Police and emphasized the vital role transport operators can play in intelligence gathering and public safety.

“Tricycles have unfortunately been used, in some instances, to commit crimes,” the Commissioner noted. “That is why cooperation with stakeholders like ASTOPU is crucial. We must all remain vigilant. If you see something, say something—because a stitch in time saves nine.”

The Police boss reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to fostering peace and security, assuring the union of his support in creating a safer environment for both operators and commuters. He urged ASTOPU members to share timely information and assist law enforcement in identifying and reporting suspicious activities.

Dr. Nwaogbe, speaking on behalf of the union, expressed gratitude to the Police for their openness to collaboration and pledged ASTOPU’s commitment to playing an active role in community policing.

The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing to continue strengthening their partnership in the interest of public safety and crime prevention.
