ABIA STATE GOVT TO RETROFIT ABIA HOTELS UMUAHIA AND EMPOWER YOUTHS WITH ICT SKILLS

The Dr. Alex Otti led administration say plans have been concluded for the renovation of Abía Hotels Ltd Umuahia .
The state Commissioner for Information Prince Okey Kanu told pressmen on Monday at the government house Umuahia after the state’s Executive council meeting that Abia Hotel in Umuahia will soon wear a befitting looks following government’s decision to give the hotel a face lift .
He noted that in order to ensure
high quality engineering and building materials in the state, the Abia State Government have installed its materials testing laboratory in Umuahia
He recalled that, a couple of months ago, the state government disclosed its intentions of establishing a materials testing laboratory The lab he said is fully in place and have the capacity
for the following services. Concrete Testing, Soil Testing, Aggregate Testing, Asphalt Flexible Pavement Testing, Steel Reinforcement Testing, Non-Destructive Testing, and Fields Testing, among so many other capabilities. .
The Commissioner for Information further informed that the Abia TechRise ICT Training phase 2 is ongoing and has reached an advanced stage and the training shall commence soon .
He said the verification of 850 Applicants have been concluded at the respective local government areas and the training for the successful applicants would commence on the 25th of September, 2025.
Prince Kanu revealed that, in furtherance of the Food Security Programme in the Agricultural Sector, the state Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs is working in colaboration with local government areas on its Agricultural Intervention Project.
Beside the provision of food for the citizenry, this intervention programme will provide employment and empowerment for Abians.
In a similar development ,
the State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs is planning the construction of four prototype markets across the 17 LGAs . According to the Commissioner
the construction would be done in batches and would commence within a fortnight , while the markets would feature 40 local stalls with solar-powered lights to provide solar-powered mobile facilities, public conveniences, and solar-powered phone charging routes.
The Information boss, who said that Abia Soccerfest competition is ongoing across the 17 LAGs, announced that the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation would host the International Leathers Summit, between the 22nd and 25th of September, 2025..
