Afolabi Charges Abia VCRU on Intelligence-Led Operations, Professionalism.
The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, psc(+), mnips, has charged officers of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) to intensify intelligence gathering and adopt intelligence-led operations in the fight against violent crime in the state.
Afolabi gave the charge on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, during a strategic briefing with personnel of the VCRU, Abia State Command, where he commended the officers for their critical role in maintaining peace and security across the state.
The Commissioner warned the officers against complacency during periods of relative calm, noting that criminal elements could use such periods to regroup and plan criminal activities. He urged them to remain proactive, vigilant and committed to protecting lives and property.

According to him, the Command would strengthen the operational capacity of the VCRU through targeted training designed to improve the effectiveness of its personnel.
He announced a combat training exercise scheduled for the following week and directed officers to identify and promptly forward all operational gaps and combat-related needs for necessary intervention.
Afolabi also emphasised the importance of intelligence gathering, stressing that police operations must be intelligence-driven to achieve optimal results in the fight against crime.
The Commissioner further charged the officers to uphold discipline, which he described as the bedrock of the Nigeria Police Force and a core value of the Inspector-General of Police.
He urged the personnel to maintain high standards of professionalism, respect for human rights and integrity while carrying out their duties, assuring that the Command remained committed to equipping its operational units to effectively respond to security challenges in Abia State.
