Dr. Chima Anyaso Calls for Peace, Security and Responsible Democratic Participation as Nigerians Mark Democracy Day 2026
As Nigerians celebrated Democracy Day 2026, Labour Party stalwart and Bende Federal Constituency hopeful, Dr. Chima Anyaso, has called for renewed commitment to peace, security, national unity, and responsible democratic participation, stressing that no nation can achieve sustainable development in an atmosphere of insecurity.
In his Democracy Day message released on Thursday, Anyaso reflected on the significance of June 12 and urged both leaders and citizens to play active roles in safeguarding Nigeria’s democracy and promoting good governance.
The renowned businessman and philanthropist described Democracy Day as an important opportunity for Nigerians to celebrate democratic governance while also taking stock of the nation’s challenges and charting a path toward sustainable growth and development.
According to him, security remains the foundation upon which democratic dividends can be delivered, noting that governments at all levels must intensify efforts to tackle the security challenges confronting different parts of the country.
“Security remains the foundation upon which democratic dividends can be delivered. No meaningful development can thrive in an atmosphere of insecurity. Protecting lives and property must remain a top priority for leaders at every level,” Anyaso stated.
The Labour Party chieftain urged Nigerians to remain committed to democratic ideals by supporting democratic institutions and embracing peaceful coexistence regardless of political, ethnic, or religious differences.
He noted that the strength of any democracy lies in the ability of citizens to accommodate differing opinions while working together for the common good.
While acknowledging the progress made in Nigeria’s democratic journey over the years, Anyaso emphasized that sustaining such gains requires vigilance, active participation, accountability, and responsible conduct from both elected officials and the electorate.
Addressing residents of Bende Federal Constituency, he encouraged them to remain steadfast in their commitment to the democratic process and prepare ahead of future elections by making informed choices based on competence, integrity, and capacity.
He stressed that elections should not be seen merely as periodic political exercises but as critical opportunities for citizens to determine the direction of governance and development in their communities.
Anyaso further urged voters to reject divisive politics and personal interests, calling instead for support for leaders who prioritize the welfare of the people and societal advancement.
According to him, the 2027 general elections present another opportunity for Nigerians to strengthen democratic governance through responsible voting and active civic engagement.
Expressing confidence in the vast potential of Bende Federal Constituency, he said the area is capable of achieving greater development, economic growth, youth empowerment, and infrastructural transformation under visionary and people-oriented leadership.
The Labour Party standard-bearer assured constituents of his unwavering commitment to their welfare and development, promising to continue championing initiatives aimed at improving living standards and creating opportunities for all.
“As we celebrate Democracy Day, I encourage our people to remain hopeful, peaceful, and committed to the democratic ideals that unite us. Together, we can build a more prosperous Bende, a stronger Abia State, and a better Nigeria,” he said.
Anyaso also wished Nigerians a peaceful and memorable Democracy Day celebration, reiterating his dedication to serving the people and contributing meaningfully to the development of Bende Federal Constituency.
Political observers believe the Democracy Day message reflects growing national conversations ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly on issues of security, governance, accountability, and citizen participation.
For many residents, the message serves as a reminder that democracy thrives when citizens actively engage in the political process, leaders remain accountable, and peace prevails across communities.
