GOVERNOR OTTI CHARGES ABIA ACCOUNTS ON EXCELLENCE INNOVATION AND IMPACT

Abía State Governor Dr. Alex Otti have charged Accountants in the state to show excellence and be innovative as to make impact on the society they are serving.

Speaking at the 2025 International Accountants Day Celebration , which took place recently at international Conference Centre Ogurube Layout Umuahia , with the theme Celebrating The Professionals That Balance The World , the governor represented by the Secretary To The State Government Professor Kenneth Kalu said as professional Accountants, they should display excellence by being innovative in their work stating that some countries in the world are known as developed countries as a result of innovations and the impact of the innovations on such countries . He cited such innovations as the cell phones , Artificial Intelligence , among others as innovations that have impacted on the world positively .

He observed that innovations can also come in the way and manner an Accountant discharges his or her duties to clients , Superiors and Subordinates in the office . He observed that their innovations should make life easier and better through innovative service delivery . He noted that the state government have through the initiatives of the state governor Dr. Alex Otti made laudable impacts on virtually all the sectors of the economy in the state and that is why Abia state is looking better today than what it was 24 years ago .

Addressing the audience , the Accountant General of the state Deaconess Njum Nnenna Onyeamanam described Accountants as the back bone of the state’s financial system , so they have to ensure Accountability , transparency expertise and precision in their financial reporting.

She eulogized the valuable contributions of Accountants in the state which she said have contributed in shaping the financial land scape of the state . The Accountant General noted that the Accounting profession is today evolving due to technological advancement and dynamism of the world which have given birth to challenges such as high expectations from Stakeholders . She hinted that there are changes that could be regulatory such as the TSA , changes could be technological , what ever the change , an Accountant should keep his or her mind open to learn and be updated with latest changes or information.

She reminded them of the essential skills and values of the accounting profession and the need to have technical expertise and be abreast of latest professional standards , saying if the world must be a better place , Accountants have to be innovative, they have to bring their technical skills to bear , be able to critically evaluate financial information and Communicate effectively with all strata of the society , and be seen as partners in progress , that wants things to work in his or her MDA .

She further charged them to
remember the ethics of the profession which are integrity accountability and transparency. Accountants should be able to embrace challenges and be ready for changes by developing themselves knowing that they play important roles in the society .

The permanent Secretary ministry of finance in her remarks stressed on the need for Accountants to show high sense of professionalism and excellence by being innovative in the discharge of their duties .
