Jubilation Across Abia as Labour Party Wraps Up Peaceful Primaries, Unveils Otti, Abaribe, Bourdex, Others for 2027 Polls

The Labour Party in Abia State has successfully concluded its primary elections for governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and House of Assembly positions ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the party describing the exercise as peaceful, transparent and hitch-free across the state.

The primaries, held simultaneously on Saturday across the 184 political wards, 17 local government areas and 24 state constituencies, recorded no incident of violence or disruption, according to a statement signed by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Mr. Iroegbu Emenike.

The party said the exercise was conducted in strict compliance with the Electoral Act and Labour Party guidelines, particularly the consensus and affirmation provisions adopted for the smooth conduct of the exercise.

At the end of the primaries, Alex Chioma Otti emerged as the Labour Party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

For the Senate, Enyinnaya Abaribe was affirmed for Abia South Senatorial District, Darlington Nwokocha for Abia Central, while Chief Dr. David Ogba Onuoha Bourdex secured the Abia North ticket.

In the House of Representatives category, candidates affirmed include Hon. Amobi Godwin Ogah for Isuikwuato/Umunneochi, Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa for Arochukwu/Ohafia, Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso for Bende, Hon. Obinna Aguocha for Ikwuano/Umuahia, Hon. Ginger Onwusibe for Isiala Ngwa North/South, Hon. Alex Ifeanyi Mascot Ikwechegh for Aba North/South, Okezie Chiemela Wambu for Osisioma/Ugwunagbo/Obingwa, and Hon. Nwoke Adigwe for Ukwa East/West Federal Constituency.

For the State House of Assembly, the party affirmed Rt. Hon. Emma Emeruwa for Aba South, Rt. Hon. Austin Okezie Meregini for Umuahia East, Hon. Uchenna Okoro for Arochukwu, Hon. Ehuchie Ijeoma for Aba North, Hon. Ucheonye Stephen for Aba Central, Hon. Nnamdi Ibekwe for Bende North, Hon. Chinedum Okorie for Bende South, Hon. Boniface Isienyi for Ikwuano, Hon. Ugochukwu Iheonunekwu for Isiala Ngwa North, Hon. Rowland Ceaser for Isiala Ngwa South, Hon. Mkpa Oju Uka for Ohafia North, Hon. Nwoke Kalu Mba for Ohafia South, Hon. Lucky Johnson for Isuikwuato, Hon. Kelechi Seth Ebere for Obingwa East, Hon. Victoria Dibumma Onwubiko for Obingwa West, Hon. Chijioke Uruakpa for Ugwunagbo, Hon. Lewis Obiayi for Ukwa East, Hon. Ahukanna Joshua for Ukwa West, Hon. Iheanacho Nwogu for Osisioma North, Hon. Fyne Ahuama for Osisioma South, Hon. Chinasa Anthony for Umuahia Central, Hon. Barr. Akaliro Anderson for Umuahia North, Hon. Emeka Jacob Obioma for Umuahia South, and Hon. Ume Mathias for Umunneochi State Constituency.

The party said the successful conduct of the primaries once again demonstrated that internal democracy can thrive in an atmosphere of unity, consensus and mutual respect.

Labour Party noted that while some political parties in the state were battling internal crises and divisions, its members across Abia remained united and jubilant over a process it described as reflecting the collective will and shared vision of the party.

The party called on members, stakeholders and residents of the state to remain united and focused as preparations gather momentum for the 2027 general elections.

It also appreciated the National Working Committee, State Working Committee, party leaders, aspirants, security agencies and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission for their roles in ensuring the successful conduct of the primaries across the state.
